Hardwood Floor Refinishing at its Worst

Jeff’s lack of accountability, carelessness, and refusal to make things right cost us significant time, money, and peace of mind. We share our experience to warn others: a lower price can come at a much higher cost. He has a very poor reputation in the hardwood flooring community, we strongly encourage people not use Jeff and his company.

We had to replace 100% of our shoe mold and repaint all doors and a number of walls..

Our Story

We hired Jeff Bolander, owner of Precision Flooring Concepts (Austinburg, OH), to refinish 1,800 sq. ft. of prefinished hardwood floors in our new North Royalton home. Despite being told in advance that the floors were prefinished and Brazilian Cherry, he raised no concerns and declined to inspect the floors prior to the job. We even brought him a sample, which he tested without issue.

When his team began, they complained about difficulty sanding and used overly aggressive 16-grit paper. They rushed through sanding in less than a day—a process that should have taken 3-4. Polyurethane was applied carelessly with a large roller, coating walls, shoe moldings, and even doors. They left windows open with the AC running during peak July heat, creating a dust-filled mess throughout the house—including upstairs areas and light fixtures—suggesting no dust control was used.

The end result was disastrous: sanding gouges, uneven floors, drips, blotches, and overlapping poly lines. Shoe moldings were ruined, polyurethane stained pillars and walls, and trim, cabinets, and stairwells were carelessly sanded. The work looked amateurish.

When we expressed concerns, Jeff denied responsibility, insisted the job was fine.

When he returned, the sanding improved slightly but was still subpar. His team broke into our home before 7 AM, dumped sanding dust in our yard, and left another major dust mess. He then demanded 2/3 of the original cost to fix his extremely poor workmanship!

Due to his poor work, we had to delay moving in by over two months, store our piano, reschedule movers twice, repaint, replace all shoe molding, and deep-clean the entire house. We also had to find a reputable company to finish our floors. When we sought a refund we were ignored.

Multiple reputable professionals confirmed Jeff’s work was poor, rushed, and used DIY-grade materials. He advertised 2-day turnarounds, which true professionals said was impossible for quality work. Eventually, we hired a true professional, whose team was appalled by the quality and property damage. They did an outstanding job while capturing almost 99% of the dust. They took 3 ¾ days just to sand and another 2 ½ days coat the floors. It’s amazing what a true professional can do.

Jeff’s lack of accountability, carelessness, and refusal to make things right cost us significant time, money, and peace of mind. We share our experience to warn others: a lower price can come at a much higher cost. He has a very poor reputation in the hardwood flooring community and we strongly encourage people not use Jeff and his company.
